Every month, our male Hyattsville residents like to get together through the activity “Gentlemen’s Club” where they are free to discuss any topics that interest them. This month, they experienced a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of sitting down with Julius Campbell, Jr, well-known former All-American high school football player and fellow resident, in an exclusive dinner and sit down discussion.

For those of you who don’t know, Campbell was a member of the 1971 T.C. Williams High School All-American football team. The team is widely credited for its role in the breakdown of racial barriers in the Alexandria, Virginia community, which was later portrayed in the 2000 Disney movie, Remember the Titans. As a senior on the team, he was selected for the All District, All Metro and All State teams (for which he was the leading vote). He was also named honorary Captain for the team, and was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player for the 1972 football season by the Alexandria Journal.

NMS Healthcare is proud of the quality care we provide to our residents. We believe that quality care should be at the forefront of every discussion regarding nursing facilities. However, CMS’s attempt to quantify quality into the “5-Star Quality Nursing Home Rating System” is deeply flawed.

These ratings should be viewed with skepticism, especially in nursing homes with ventilator/dialysis units who are taking care of people who are more acutely ill.

LAS VEGAS, April 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, April 23, 2014, Affiliated Dialysis Centers, LLC ("ADC") shared the release of clinical data in a Late Breaking Poster Session at the 2014 National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Spring Clinical Meetings in Las Vegas, NV. Xelay Acumen, a strategy and medical data analytics firm, independently led the data collection and analysis effort, and Dr. Alex Yang, M.D. presented the results.

Earlier this year, ADC presented the first results of a large epidemiological health outcomes clinical research study involving End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients who received their dialysis care on-site in the nursing home setting. The study utilized the largest known database of ESRD patients receiving dialysis in the nursing home setting, consisting of nearly 4,000 patients tracked over a 6-year follow-up period. In this new study utilizing this clinical database, health status and patient outcomes were compared in nursing home patients receiving daily home hemodialysis vs. conventional thrice weekly hemodialysis.

NMS Healthcare has been named a quality respiratory care provider. This is under a new program aimed at making sure residents in long-term care facilities have access to respiratory care services provided by qualified respiratory therapists. The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) started the Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) program in 2003 to help consumers make informed choices about their health care. The program initially enrolled hospitals that agreed to ensure patient safety by adhering to a strict set of criteria governing their respiratory care services. Home care organizations were added to the program a year later, and this year the Association is adding long-term care facilities, including skilled nursing facilities, long-term acute care hospitals, and other long-term care facilities. Recognized organizations are listed on the AARC’S consumer web site.
