We offer our employees continuous education and development programs to ensure that their skills stay up-to-date and that they have the tools, knowledge and information they need to be their best and to provide quality resident care.

Our employee advancement philosophy ties learning objectives to career advancement. This encourages our associates to pursue personal development opportunities as a means to enhance their careers.

Administrator-in-Training (AIT)

NMS has a strong belief in teaching and promoting from within when possible. Each year, NMS identifies one or several candidates for the Administrator-in-Training program and presents them to the Maryland Board of Nursing Home Administrators for review and approval into the formal MD AIT program. This program can last from six months to 1+ years depending upon education and experience. This is one way that NMS ensures quality leadership within its facilities.

Educational Assistance

NMS may reimburse full-time employees up to $3,000 per year for college course tuition or certification registrations. Employees must have been on-the-job full-time for one full year prior to the beginning of the class and must be in “good standing” (no disciplinary actions on file). To maintain eligibility for tuition reimbursement, employees must (1) be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited institution, (2) the class or program of study must be related to the person’s field, but not necessarily related to their current job, (3) employee must document that they have earned a grade of “A” or a “B” or better within 45 days after completing the class.

Heritage Care, Inc. Scholarship Award

Every year NMS Healthcare grants full scholarship awards for RNs and LPNs!. Employees who are interested and committed to received this award must present a 1,200 word essay expressing their desire and reasons why they should be selected for such an honor. The candidate must be a full-time employee with a minimum of one year of service and be in good standing with no disciplinary actions.

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes

For employees with limited English proficiency. These classes focus on the communication skills needed to enhance their job performance and enable them to move into higher roles within the company, such as Feeding Assistants and GNAs".

Director of Nursing-in-Training program

Prepares experienced managers for higher levels of management as facility leaders.

Rehab Manager-in-Training program (MIT)

Prepares experienced therapists for higher levels of management as facility leaders.

Leadership Certification Program

Our program provides all managers with the necessary tools to manage their departments and develop the quality leadership skills that are inspired by the mission, vision and values of the company.

GNA program

This program enables employees to move up into careers in nursing, as well as apply for our annual LPN and RN scholarship program which allows them to advance in their careers.
